mining engineer

After finishing secondary school in Banska Štiavnica, B. attended the Mining and Forestry Academy until 1868. A year later, as a mining apprentice in civil service, he began working in the mine in Banska Štiavnica. From 1872 onwards, he worked in the Tisovec mine, which was likewise state property. In the scope of the reorganisation of state mines in 1881, an independent labour management was formed within the central directorate of the Ministry of Finance in Železník. In connection with this, B. was transferred from Tisovec to Železník in 1882, and was entrusted with running the local mines, Gemer and Turňa. He spent his last years of service after 1901 in Rožňava. During his activity in Železník, he led numerous important projects, including the excavation of the Alžbeta mine, the deepening of the Dionyz mineshaft, the construction of the Železník-Tisovec cable railway, and the building of various types of furnaces.
B. was also active in the Borsod-Gömör subsidiary of the Hungarian provincial company for mining and metallurgy in Rožňava. In 1902, a subsidiary of the museum commission chose him as its president and authorised him to draw up a concept for the mining museum in Rožňava. In addition, he was also the president of a commission for the foundation of a mining vocational school. He assumed this function in 1909 and later on also worked on the financial plan for the development of this school. B. also greatly contributed to the foundation of the Museum of Mining in 1912, and actively participated in the public life of the town of Rožňava.
