About project

Technical and cultural heritage of Central Europe

Heritage of Central Europe, which grew out of intense and constantly intertwining history and which from Roman Empire on, bears witness of enrichment and interplay of cultural, technical and intellectual capital that was possible due to political, economic as well as cultural interests and interconnection. Common cultural and historical space, which was in the second half of the 19th century a part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, began to disintegrate with the growth of different national consciousness under the influence of the Enlightenment, the Renaissance and the French Revolution. After the First World War the geographical and cultural area was divided to a number of national entities (Kingdom of SHS, Austria, Poland, Czechoslovakia, Hungary), but still allowed a vibrant cultural and intellectual transfer, which was reflected in the fertile heritage, created by philosophers, artists, writers, scientists and inventors of that time.

Scientists and inventors, not only in the central part, but the whole European area were marked by a cosmopolitan character and openness to new knowledge. Their legacy speaks not only of their works and inventions, which are today the platform for fundamental human principles and technologies, but also speaks about the values of integration and synergy.

With the fall of the Iron Curtain at the end of 1980s, and new wave of independence in the former Yugoslavia, one of the most important events of modern European history began - the integration process, which includes an increasing number of European countries. This has triggered the need for reflecting a common heritage and its joint presentation.

What is CESA - Central European Science Adventure?

Six technical museums (Slovenia, Austria, Hungary, Czech Republic, Poland and Slovakia) have merged into the network in order to reevaluate and present not only the inventions and discoveries, but also scientists who were not so well known, but significantly effected today's development of science in the fields of physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics, mountain science, construction, motoring ... Our goal is to present science and inventiveness in a plain yet professional, transparent, educational and fun way for children.

The main activities of the project will be:
a) The scientific adventure (CESA)

Is an interactive game for children from 10-14 years, allowing them an interesting, unusual and fun experience in getting to know the heritage of scientists and inventors from Central Europe. The game will travel to six European venues. It will start in the Technical Museum of Slovenia in Bistra and continue to Vienna, Brno, Krakow, Budapest and Košice. Children from all these countries will compete, research and study together. The game is designed as an additional school activity for 20-30 students or one classroom or as a game of leisure in which parents can also participate. Learn more about the game.

b) Online lexicon of scientists and inventors of Central Europe

Is a virtual transparent popular scientific publication, which will include more than 300 scientists from the fields of natural science, inventiveness and construction activities. In it you can find facts about works, inventions and biographies of scientists and inventors of Central Europe in past centuries. This kind of database is a credible source of information and is primarily intended for basic knowledge of cultural and technical heritage of innovators and inventors of Central Europe. LEXICON

In addition to the game and the publication we will organize a conference and varied workshops for professionals and the general public. These are intended for discussions on the relevance of the scientific heritage in Europe today, effective and interesting knowledge and heritage transfers and last but not least for the preserving the innovative approaches and responsible science in the future. Our guests will be the professional and leading personnel from the participating technical museums, scientists, university professors, pedagogues, teachers and others.

What are our goals?
