Civil Engineer

From 1868 to 1876 K. studied construction at the Technical University. As a student he worked as an assistant in the department of building bridges. After becoming an engineer he started his career in a locomotive factory.
However, K. was interested primarily in water works. Between 1877/79 he complemented his skills at the Agriculture University in Vienna. In 1879 he became senior lecturer of agricultural engineering. Following the extended student trips K. received his PhD. at the University of Leipzig in 1882 and a year later became a private lecturer at the Technical University in Vienna and a full professor in 1889.
Between 1883 and 1893 he was active as a consultant for the construction of state railways and was, as the professor of water works in German Technical University in Brno, mainly focused on this field. Among other things, he wrote a number of articles for the Lueger Lexicon of Technology (1894/97) on groundwater, the regulation of river basins, coasts and profiles, the regulation and maintenance of rivers suitable for navigation, the construction of canals and dams, as well as on the regulation of torrents.
