chemist
After graduating, P. studied chemistry and physics at the University of Ljubljana from 1923 to 1927. She received her diploma in 1929, and began teaching at the gymnasium in Ljubljana as early as 1927, and at the gymnasium in Celje from 1933 to 1941. During the occupation in 1941, she was imprisoned due to her activity in the feminist movement. P. received her doctorate after the war, in 1946. In 1952, she became an associate professor, and in 1957 a full professor of organic chemistry and analysis at the Faculty of Technology and Philosophy of the University of Ljubljana.
As a scientist, P. at first worked on polysaccharides in the scientific group of Maks →Samec, and was later primarily active in the field of chromatography and organic chemical technology. With her research on substances affecting the human psyche, particularly alkaloids (rye ergots), she contributed significantly to the development of the pharmaceutical industry. Independently, and with co-workers, she published around one hundred articles and wrote several textbooks, including one for organic chemistry (1946).
