Mechanical engineer
After he attended the elementary and secondary schools in his hometown, H. studied mechanical engineering at the Technical University in Zürich and in 1931 took a degree in mechanical engineering. After that he worked as an assistant to professor Quilly at the University. In 1933 he moved to Budapest, where he worked for some time in the hardware industry, and later established his technical bureau. As a technical adviser and a consultant, H. had an important role in the development of Hungarian industry in the 20th century.
His most important invention was the introduction of indirect dry cooling system for power plants instead of water cooling, which proved very useful for areas where there was a shortage of water. Cooling system, which became known as the H. system was also extended to other countries. In 1951 he was offered the post of Professor at the Technical University of Budapest. He retired in 1976. Since 1954 he was a correspondent and since 1962 a full member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
