HAGGENMACHER, Károly
* 13. 3. 1835, Winterthur, Switzerland
† 9. 8. 1921, Budapest, Hungary
Inventor (milling technique)
H. was trained for the profession of miller in his home country and than travelled abroad. He worked in several mills in Hungary. In 1863 he worked in the steam mill of the Budapest steam mills company (Dampfmühlengesellschaft), where he was the head miller, while he was promoted to technical director in 1867.
His most important invention was the shallow sieve, in which several networks were moving horizontally, while after a certain amount the grinding was separated. Thus, the efficiency of seeding was increased as well. His invention, which has rapidly spread throughout the world, was patented in 1887. H. also constructed and improved the apparatus for cleaning grits.
