Mining engineer
After grammar school in Košice, S. in 1875 started working in the ironworks of Štedan in Kluknava. Due to his talent he won a scholarship for the Mining and Forestry Academy in Banská Štiavnica, which he finished in 1879. After that he was employed as a mining engineer, first in private and then later in the national mine in Banska Štiavnica. After excluding Otto Cseti, Mine and Forestry College appointed him Head of surveying Department in 1902. As a surveyor S. dealt with improvements of Weith device and Cseti’s prop, he constructed the signal board and device for determining the direction, exploited electromagnetic field and in accordance to Mandrin optimized the device so that the sounding line was also stabilized in water. In "Banícke a hutnícke Listy" (a newspaper of Mining and Metallurgy) S. published articles on surveying, mining, processing and geology. In addition to his function in higher education S. also performed surveying activities.
