† 4. 2. 1902, Banská Štiavnica, Slovakia
Mining engineer
After finishing grammar school and a philosophical course in 1845, R. completed Mining and forestry academy in Banská Štiavnica. In 1850 he first worked as a trainee in the main coin office in Vienna but returned back to Banska Štiavnica the following year.
The next two decades R. performed various services in many parts of Slovakia. He returned to Banska Štiavnica and was appointed I. category Mining official in 1872. In 1890, at the age of 65, he was still the leading teacher at the Mining technical school in Banská Štiavnica, where he received the title of mining consultant.
Major innovations in the Slovak mining followed during his operations in the construction of František and Žigmund mines after 1872. Here he insisted on the introduction of drilling machine and he himself participated in the construction of drilling machines and drilling stands, which were inserted in the tunnel during the progress of digging and thus reducing the planned progression for almost ten years. In connection to that R. also introduced a new way to detonate mines by means of electricity. He also dealt with the design and construction of the complete mining and processing devices. Together with Eugen →Broszmann R. is considered as the most important representative of Slovak and Hungarian mining science in the second half of the 19th century.
