Mining engineer
As a forest consultant’s son R. studied in Banská Štiavnica from 1831 on. After that he entered the mining civil service in Banská Štiavnica, where he performed different functions. Since 1850 he worked as a metallurgical inspector and was an 1866 awardee of the title mining consultant. From 1872 until his retirement in 1881 he was a mining referee at the state mining directorate. In practice, R. dealt mainly with the introduction and improvement of manufacturing techniques. Among other things he constructed junction furnace, sedimentation facilities and mills for mixing. Based on mathematical calculations using water wheels he managed to significantly increase the operation angle and the amount of water which flow through them. Modernization of the stamping plants increased the specific quantity of produced metal. In particular, he managed to introduce new procedures in the ore processing in Banská Štiavnica. R. issued 21 publications in various professional journals and periodicals, in which he theoretically and practically dealt with processing and other mining issues in reference to their economic impact.
